How to change the timeframes in MetaTrader

Modified on Tue, 13 Aug at 4:15 PM

When facing financial markets, conducting a prior study or analysis of the financial markets is advisable. If we talk about technical analysis, the study of price behaviour in different periods can be essential for making decisions, so in this article, we will explain how we can change or modify the timeframe in our charts on the MetaTrader platform.

How can I change timeframes in MetaTrader?

In MetaTrader 4, the timeframes on the charts are standardized in minute charts (M1, M5, M15, M30), and in hourly charts (H1, H4). In charts of higher timeframes such as daily, weekly, and monthly (D1, W1, and MN, respectively), in MetaTrader 5, we can enable new timeframes that could be interesting for our study depending on our strategy.

To do this, first, please make sure that we have the “Timeframes” option activated in our toolbar:

Once activated, we have to right-click on the corresponding section of the toolbar and select the “Customize” option.

In the next window, we can see all the timeframes available for MetaTrader 5. We will select the ten-minute chart option (M10) in our example.

Once the previous process is finished, we can see how this new period will be available in our toolbar.

If we do not want to add this specific period to our toolbar but still use it, we can select 10 Minutes from the Timeframes -> Minutes menu after right-clicking on the chart.
