Issues while logging in to MetaTrader

When you are trying to log in to the PC version of the MetaTrader 4/5 you may face some issues. In this article, we cover several most relevant errors and their reasons.


No connection 


If you see an error “No connection” at the bottom right corner of the platform or in the Journal of your MetaTrader, there can be several reasons for it:

  • MetaTrader 4/5 settings are out of order (lost connection to account). This is the most often mistake. When you are logging in to your trading account you may enter some of the credentials incorrectly. No need to worry – we are providing an instruction on how to check and correctly input the account data to your MetaTrader at the end of the article.

  • No or weak internet connection. You may check if the internet is working on your device for other apps except MetaTrader.

  • MetaTrader 4/5 is outdated. This is solved simply – you need to find the section “Help” at the top of the MetaTrader and choose “Check for updates” there.

  • Antivirus/Firewall. If you use any of these, you may try to add MetaTrader 4/5 to the allowed apps/whitelist or turn off the program for a couple of minutes for a check. If MetaTrader works while the antivirus/firewall is off, we found the reason.


Waiting for an update


If you see a black screen instead of the chart, it means there are no quotes received by MetaTrader. With a stable connection, you will be able to see quotes on your chart and they will be updated while received. But no quotes mean there is no connection to your account. It may be for the following reasons:

  1. Incorrect login data – you may see an instruction on how to check and correctly input the account data to your MetaTrader at the end of the article.

  2. Internet connection issues – you may check if the internet is working on your device for other apps except MetaTrader.

  3. Zero account type - one of the most common problems that we face when connecting our Zero.MT4 or Zero.MT5 account in MetaTrader that we either do not find the corresponding instruments for said account, the chart does not update, or we see a black chart with no quotes.

This happens because of the instruments of the Zero.MT4 and Zero.MT5 accounts have the ending"-Z".


To add these instruments to the Market Watch please follow the below steps: 

  • Right-click on "Market Watch"

  • Select "Show all" and then open the charts of the instruments with the correct ending “-Z”.


Incorrect login details


Sometimes clients have problems while logging into MetaTrader because the credentials introduced are wrong. To avoid this situation, our clients can simply copy the credentials from the Dashboard following the next steps:

  • Log in to your Dashboard,

  • Find the account in question in your Dashboard,

  • Click on the three dots on the right of it,

  • Click “Account settings”,

  • Click on the copy sign near the account number.

Nothing helps – still cannot log in


Unfortunately, sometimes nothing above helps. If you already tried everything above or even cannot choose the server from the server field (the field is empty), then you may need to use a DNS.


DNS is a special technical name of the server that will allow you to connect to the server directly. In case you simply cannot choose the server or no other options help to log into your account you may use DNS. The list of DNS by servers you may find in this article.
