Issues while logging in to MetaTrader

Modified on Wed, 9 Apr at 7:18 PM

When logging in to the PC version of MetaTrader, you may encounter several issues. This article covers some of the most common errors and their causes.

No Connection

If you see the error "No connection" at the bottom right corner of the platform or in the Journal of MetaTrader, there could be several reasons for it:

  • Incorrect MetaTrader 4/5 settings: This is the most common issue, often caused by incorrect credentials when logging in. Don’t worry—we provide instructions on how to verify and correctly input your account data at the end of the article.
  • Weak or no internet connection: Check whether your internet connection is working for other apps, aside from MetaTrader.
  • Outdated MetaTrader version: If your MetaTrader is outdated, simply go to the Help section at the top of MetaTrader and select "Check for updates".
  • Antivirus/Firewall issues: If you have antivirus or firewall software, try adding MetaTrader to the allowed apps or whitelist. Alternatively, temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall to check if MetaTrader works. If it does, the issue is likely related to the antivirus/firewall settings.

Waiting for an Update

If you see a black screen instead of the chart, it means that MetaTrader has not received any quotes. With a stable connection, quotes should appear and be updated regularly. No quotes generally indicate no connection to your account. This can happen due to:

  • Incorrect login data: If you're unsure, instructions on how to correctly input your account details can be found at the end of the article.
  • Internet connection issues: Check if your internet works for other apps on your device, aside from MetaTrader.

Incorrect Login Details

If you're having trouble logging in due to incorrect credentials, the easiest way to resolve it is by copying the credentials directly from your Dashboard:

  • Log in to your Dashboard.
  • Locate the account you are trying to log into.
  • Click the three dots next to the account and select "Account Settings".
  • Click the copy icon next to the account number.

If you’ve forgotten your password for a live account, instructions on how to reset your password are available in this article.

Still Cannot Log In?

If none of the above solutions help and you still can’t log in (for example, if the server field is empty), you may need to use a DNS to connect directly to the server. A DNS is a technical server name that allows a direct connection to the server. If you can’t select the server or none of the other options work, using a DNS might resolve the issue. A list of available DNS servers is provided in this article.
